The Long Continental Drive (Duration 3:20)

When: July 2002

My first ‘real’ visit to continental Europe involves taking a ferry from Turku on the west coast of Finland to Stockholm, Sweden, where we spent most of the morning wandering around the deserted old town. Onwards to Denmark and the city of Copenhagen with it’s many palaces and the statue of Hans Christian Anderson creation, the Little Mermaid.

From there, the drive continues towards the imposing Neuschwanstein Castle in the south of Germany, and through the Austrian Alps towards the towering peak of Matterhorn (4,478m) in Switzerland.

Six days on the French Riviera follows, which include visits to the Villas de Rothchild in Cape Ferrat, sidling up among the rich and famous - including the Grimaldi’s - in Monaco, admiring Picasso’s preserved art pieces at Antibes and smelling the perfume in Grasse. The trip ends with two nights of partying in Berlin.

As a destination: I have always said that Europe is one of the best place on earth, with so much diversity to keep life interesting. History and culture await in Continental Europe. What are you waiting for?
